The Phonograph

Thomas Edison invented this in 1877. It's purpose was to work like a telephone and telegraph. He believed that a telephone message could be recorded and played back over and over again. He used the diaphram to figure out how to get the messages to play back. The speaking vibrations engraved the message into the paper. Later on he used metal cylinders instead of paper. He found that this worked better than te paper. It was somewhat of a popular item back in that time period.
