Ethiopia

Ethiopia was one of the only colony's to successfully resist the Europeans but it took a lot of fighting. Their leader Menelik the third had successfully played Britain, France and Italy against eachother. They were all trying to get Ethiopia into their Spheres of Influence. Menelik built up a huge arsenal of weapons that he had purchased from France and Russia. He was about to sign a treaty with Italy when he noticed they translated differently. He then revoked the treaty which made Italy mad and they fought against eachother in the greatest battle known to African history, the Battle of Adowa. Menelik came out on top and started to modernize his country.
